Vinix VPC-7704
This Vinix was sold in Germany during the early or mid 1980's. On the back there are two labels; one says "Designed in Japan" and the other says "Made in Taiwan". It's smaller than it looks. It is only 43cm wide and 25cm tall (with the handle down). The speakers are only 12cm diameter. And it weighs only 4.5 KG. But it's a great looking ghettoblaster! Lots of chrome and aluminum trim. A nice brushed aluminum plate inside the tape compartment. And it's got lots of buttons and knobs. 6 on the top, 19 on the front......plus the tape keys! The owners manual says its output power is only 2x2.5 watts, but its sound quality is still reasonably good.
Unfortunately the build quality is not very good, because:
1) The speakers are glued, instead of screwed, to the case
2) The FM tuner has weak reception.
3) The switches feel cheap, and make loud electrical pop noises.
4) Mine has a loud static noise for 20-30 seconds when I power it on. Bad capacitors?
5) You have to remove the circuit boards to clean the controls.
6) My clock doesn't work anymore, and 3 of the clock buttons are frozen.
7) The Aux (DIN) input does not function. I was not able to get any sound from it. I did get sound from the Mic inputs (when connected to my iPod), but they do not sound as good as a proper Aux input would.
